The Krewe of Zeus (Jefferson Parish)
The Krewe of Zeus
Krewe organized in 1958
350 male riders
25 floats
15 marching bands
Contemporary-style parade
King, Queen, lieutenants on horseback.
Look for the Zeusian drachma in the rare pink anodized, and the medallion beads.
Zeus was the first nighttime parade to be staged in the suburbs back in 1958.
The greatest of all the Greek gods, Zeus ruled Mount Olymus and the entire pantheon of heaven and earth. His daughter was Aphrodite.   Today, the krewe that bears his name is the oldest parading organization in Jefferson, and presents the parish with it's Lundi Gras Night spectacular.  A contemporary-styled parade, the traditional feel is preserved in the mule-drawn king's float and calliope.
This krewe has Greek links This krewe shares a Greek theme with the krewes of Adonis, Aphrodite, Argus Atlas Endymion, Hermes Iris Jason Morpheus Muses, Okeanos Orpheus Pegasus, Proteus Morpheus Pygmalion, Sparta, and  Rhea.
