The Krewe of Thor (Jefferson Parish)
The Krewe of Thor
Krewe organized in 1974
500 male and female riders
22 floats
King, Queen
Look for special doubloons tossed by the King and Queen, a rarity for this krewe.
The Krewe of Thor was the first Jefferson Parish krewe to consist of male and female members.
Named for the god of thunder in Nordic mythology, Thor has made Mardi Gras history in some large ways, most notably in 1996 when it became the first krewe to stop issuing doubloons.  In 1990 they merged for a season with the Krewe of Mardi Gras, but quickly returned to their prior status the following year.
Thor is sponsored in part by Treasure Chest Casino and Entercom Communications.
