Named
for the area of the city where it was formed, the Krewe of Mid-City has
always been a special part of Carnival, distinguishing itself as an
innovator. The fifth-oldest parading organization in the city,
the krewe introduced animated floats to Carnival in 1947. One of
their most memorable parades was "Candy" in 1955, where the floats
sprayed scent into the air representing each treat.
Mid-City also holds the distinction of a unique style of float design,
using brightly-hued tinfoils to cover each and every unit. Each
year a boy and girl from the Ronald McDonald House are selected to
serve as honorary King and Queen, and outstanding members of the
community are honoured by Royal Proclamation.
This krewe shares its New Orleans theme with the krewes of Alla, Arabi, Carrollton, Grela, NOMTOC, and Pontchartrain. |
This krewe shares a committment to children's causes with the krewes of Aladdin, Centurions, Choctaw, Grela, Jason, Little Rascals, Muses, Shangri-La, Sparta, and Thoth. |
