In Roman mythology, Mercury is the god of
communication and transportation, and shares these traits with the
Egyptian god Thoth, and the Grecian god
Hermes, both of which also
happen to be parading krewes as well!
In 2003, Mercury
moved itself to what is now known as Super Parade Sunday in Jefferson
Parish. The
krewe features a series of family floats, mini-floats for the ladies of
the court and the officers, and a special streetcar float for the
ladies-in-waiting. The krewe is also known for attracting some
of the more unique guest celebrities to the Jefferson parish season.
The Krewe of Mercury
shares a link with the krewes of Thoth
and Hermes. |
This krewe shares a
Roman theme with the krewes of Aquila,
Bacchus, Caesar, Centurions, Gladiators, and
Saturn. |
This
krewe was stopped from marching in the 149th Carnival celebrations
by Hurricane Katrina. The krewe shares that bond with
Adonis,
Aphrodite, Arabi,
Atlas, Bards, Choctaw,
Cleopatra,
Gladiators, Grela, Hermes, L'il
Rascals,
NOMTOC, Oshun,
Pegasus,
Pontchartrain, Saturn, du Vieux, and Crescent City. |
