This
krewe, formed in 1998, takes its name from the ancient Druids of Great
Britain, and have no connection to the Mystick Krewe of Druids that
followed Rex during the 1920's and 30's. A most unusual krewe,
the Ancient Druids are a parade-only krewe, eschewing bal masques and
traditional royalty. Their membership is also limited to members
of other Carnival organizations and sits at a cut-off of 200
members. However, there is one traditon that the Druids observe;
the complete secrecy of its members and its king, the Archdruid, whose
identity is never revealed.
This krewe shares a medieval Briton theme with the krewes of Excalibur, King Arthur , and Tucks. |
This krewe is among those krewes that present flambeaux, including the krewes of
Babylon, Chaos, d'Etat, Hermes, Orpheus, Proteus, Saturn, and Sparta. |
