Without
a doubt one of the most important krewes formed in the twentieth
cetury, Bacchus takes its name from the Roman god of wine (called
Dionysus in Greece), formed by a group of entrepreneurs determined to
take Carnival in a new direction. From it's first parade, Bacchus
made some important changes in how parades were done, instituting the
advents of national celebrities being chosen as monarch, constructing
the largest floats, and transforming the traditional ball into an
enormous supper dance complete with Las Vegas-style
entertainment. Featured in their parade are the signature floats
the Bacchasaurus, the three Kong's - King, Queen, and Baby, and the
giant floats the Bacchawhoppa and the Bacchagator.
