Originally
organized as a men's walking club in 1932 in the St. Bernard community
of Arabi, this krewe took on the Arabic theme to satirize their
town. In 1957, the krewe launched their first float parades and
rolled in New Orleans on Fat Tuesday. For unknown reasons, the
krewe disbanded immediately after their 29th float parade and went
their separate ways. Just
last year, the krewe made a grand return to christen a new parade route
in
Chalmette, becoming one of only three parading organizations in St.
Bernard Parish.
This krewe shares its
New Orleans theme with the krewes of Arabi,
Carrollton, Grela, Mid-City,
NOMTOC, and Pontchartrain. |
This
krewe was stopped from marching in the 149th Carnival celebrations
by Hurricane Katrina. The krewe shares that bond with
Adonis,
Aphrodite, Arabi, Bards,
Cleopatra, Druids,
Gladiators,
Mercury, NOMTOC, Oshun, Saturn, and du Vieux. |
