NOMTOC
has the distinction of being the city's only all-black parading
organization, presenting a laudable parade that boasts a large and
devoted turnout every year. Among their many traditions, the
krewe and their sponsor, the Jugs Social Club, sselect a number of
academic honor students, allowing them to ride as guests of the
organization.
The Jugs Social Club was formed in 1951 and has a rich heritage of
civic activism, regularly donating generous amounts to local schools,
youth groups, and social programs.
NOMTOC also holds the distinction of having one of the most populated
parades, reigning in the streets for more than four hours!
This krewe shares its New Orleans theme
with the krewes of Alla, Arabi, Carrollton,
Grela, Mid-City, and Pontchartrain. |
This
krewe was stopped from marching in the 149th Carnival
celebrations
by Hurricane Katrina. The krewe shares that bond with
Adonis,
Aphrodite, Arabi,
Atlas, Bards, Choctaw,
Cleopatra,
Gladiators, Grela, Hermes, L'il
Rascals,
Mercury, Oshun,
Pegasus,
Pontchartrain, Saturn, du Vieux, and Crescent City. |
