Created
by a group of Orleans businessmen to boost the fading parade schedule
after the Great Depression, the knights take their name from the Greek
mythos of the winged courier of the gods. Featuring flambeaux and
torch carriers, Hermes is a step back in time to the grandest age of
Carnival, beginning with the golden statue that preceeds each parade,
right down to the air of secrecy that pervades the air around them.
The Knights of Hermes
also share a connection with the Krewe of
Mercury and the Krewe of Thoth. |
This krewe
shares a Greek theme with the krewes of Adonis, Aphrodite, Argus,
Atlas,
Endymion, Iris,
Jason,
Morpheus,
Muses, Okeanos,
Orpheus,
Pegasus, Proteus,
Morpheus,
Pygmalion,
Rhea, Sparta, and
Zeus. |
This krewe is among those krewes that
present flambeaux, including the krewes of
Babylon, Chaos, d'Etat,
Druids, Orpheus, Proteus, Saturn,
and Sparta. |
This
krewe was stopped from marching in the 149th Carnival celebrations
by Hurricane Katrina. The krewe shares that bond with
Adonis,
Aphrodite, Arabi,
Atlas, Bards, Choctaw,
Cleopatra,
Gladiators, Grela, L'il Rascals,
Mercury, NOMTOC, Oshun,
Pegasus,
Pontchartrain, Saturn, du Vieux, and Crescent City. |
